Private Railways

SES is more than a reliable partner. Our reputation for safety and engineering excellence has spread outside the Network Rail infrastructure with invitations to assist with major projects and renewals from private and heritage rail users. We take great pride in our services along with our group ethos for safety efficiency and world class engineering standards that we are providing to a whole new audience.

SES can trace our origins back through a long association with the high risk extractive industries. SES was pleased to be invited to manage and install the high volume busy level crossing at the former Kellingley Colliery coal stocking site. This vital crossing was integral to the operation of the mine, transporting in excess of 95% of mineral output to local power stations and thus maintaining their revenue stream. As such, the installation had to be meticulously planned and carried out within stringent time constraints. The project was completed both safely and ahead of plan but also with the minimum disruption to the client’s operations.

The Edinburgh Napier University and the Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) contacted SES requesting our services to replace and repair worn sections of the Bo’ness and Kinneil heritage railway. We were delighted to provide our engineering expertise and guide a group of thirty civil engineering students through successful completion of the renewal.

SES' unrivalled reputation for safety and engineering excellence in heavy industry makes us the number one choice for railway related projects ‘on and off’ the infrastructure.
